... Hoping to score a good parking spot at the annual local airshow, years ago I volunteered / joined the Confederate Air Force. But they changed the dang name 5 minutes after I got my official CAF shirt. 🤷 I drifted away, but still have the shirt and my warbird 👀 ML
751 likesa_tolar Nice bird. Was it an L-17? I've got NAV-4-036 here in BHM.
  -  laruetactical @a_tolar ... It is an L-17, complete with placards still attached to all the major parts. 1 like
hoosier_tejas I got to see the entire CAF show when I was a kid circa 1982 in Columbus, IN. The only thing that was missing was the Fallschirmjagger re-enactment. But they had all the warbirds and the Tora Tora squadron in the repainted T-6 Texans complete with exploding barrels of fuel to simulate Pearl Harbor. My sweetie and I were driving back on 281 from Marble Falls and came across the airfield north of there. Can't wait to check another CAF air show! 1 like
salty_oso My grandfather Charles Wiegand was part of the confederate airforce. I spent many summers at the hanger in San Marcos watching them work on a p 38 and memorizing all the dirty jokes to take back to school. Lol 1 like

jedi_wombat Some of my best memories with my Dad is going to the airshow at NFAFB and seeing those beautiful Warbirds.
rdgooz Dang that's cool stuff! Another big CAF fan here
raydrawsagain I was an aircraft mech yrs ago in AZ & wld stop & talk to the old CAF guys. (Falcon Field, Mesa) Really miss all that.
tenmoreto.50cal We have a Ghost Squadron of the Commerative Air Force up here in MN. They have a B25J named Miss Mitchell.
netchemica Thank god they changed the name. That's not a mentality you want to be associated with, lol.
  -  laruetactical @netchemica ... "God" is capitalized in the south. Both sides of my family dwelled in east Tennessee and northern Alabama and drew ancient cave art onto the sides of their barns - "See Rock City"
  -  netchemica @laruetactical It depends on which of the 2,000 gods you're talking about. Not all of them are capitalized.
