... After sunset, my Wirehaired Pointing Griffon "treed" something on the deck out back. Back in the 80s, pointing out across his Little Tennessee River dairy farm, my grandad's last advice to me was "Son, when your dog has treed, GO TO HIM ! GO to him ! !" I took that advice and went outside only to find her toying with this rattlesnake. I'm a naturalist of sorts and normally leave snakes alone. But Athena hasn't been desnaked, so I desnaked. ML

sp.arks991 Oh and on a different note, was rocking my old OBR heavy this weekend on a hunt. Every time I pull that thing out of the case I just am amazed at how well it shoots it is a work of art. Thanks again for what you guys do. 🦅us 4 likes

  -  tacconcan @jk_rubigator same, looked it up....turns out the phrase "barking up the wrong tree" comes from that action. 1 like

treylillich Amen. Dixie was toying with a Hognose the other day so I relocated it to another part of the property. Had it been a poisonous snake it would have been desnaked
81tactical A young rattler too, would've been one helluva bite 6 likes

  -  watchschotts @81tactical that's a myth that has been busted I believe
  -  81tactical @watchschotts IDK a buddy of mine got bit several years back by a young water moccasin and spent two weeks in the hospital, the doctors said since it was a young snake it did a full release of its venom because of the fact they can't control it and do a dry-bite 🤷 but IDK if that's true, wouldn't want to find out like my buddy did LOL (btw, he got bit in the finger and his entire arm up to the shoulder swelled up to 26"😳)
  -  watchschotts @81tactical dayumn! That's one way to get 26" guns 💪🏼💪🏼 errr.... gun 💪🏼 1 like
  -  derek558 @81tactical I think that is true...younger may release more venom, but you can't tell how old a snake is just by looking at it. 1 like
  -  81tactical @derek558 well obviously not exactly how old it is, never said he was a 7mo old snake, but by the very few rattles on its tail and by how small it looks compared to that round you can tell it's pretty young adolescent snake and not a full grown mature adult snake
  -  81tactical @watchschotts Hahaa! 🤣🤣🤣
ladandadog1619 The young rattlesnake "more venomous" thing is a myth. 1 like

dlong335 There are likely more.... little turds.
honeycombgriffons I wondered if your dog was a Griff! Awesome choice.
billsnearly Small little guy. Still tastes like chicken. 😁
va_berry84 Unfortunately you rarely get dry bites with a rattler that small. Also where there one there's likely more, atleast in the App Mtns this time of year. 3 likes
  -  laruetactical @va_berry84 ... My hat is off to him/her. Got dropped out of her mom and was instantly on her own. Started catching, killing, and eating. Bravo. 3 likes
black.wolf.armory Good save, pup comes first.
emilio_3511 I think a special Rattlesnake edition rifle is in order to mark this occasion.
