"Scout Sniper Day Sight - Improved Mount". ... was essentially the requirement/program title.

When source selection was completed it was awarded to LaRue and part number assigned was LT840-34-0 or -20.

Different bias was needed due to M40s and M107 rifles (needed 0 bias) as it was already built into their weapon rail.

The biased LT840 is used on the M110 which was the only sniper system with a parallel rail.

Testing proved that a zero bias mount would've worked for all systems, but old timers that grew up on 1" tube Unertls wouldn't hear of it ... hence there are two variants of the same mount.

This program unseated the Badger mounts.

More story - after we submitted, seemingly years later they called and said "we need to schedule an Award Ceremony". Me - "What's an award ceremony ?" Them, "Y'all won the SSDS-IM solicitation and there will be an Award Ceremony." Me - "What's this SSDS-IM thing-a-ma-jig?" ... Turns out it was this mount and we had made a lot of new mounts since we had knocked this one out. And we suspect the Marines will have these LaRue mounts for about as long as they had their Unertls 😎 ML

tacticalslings Mark, they spec's 30 moa for the original M40A3 which did not work with original Unertals. That's why USO put the spring relief on bottom of rebuilt Unertals they repaired. So they could get a 100 yard zero. Reason to have angle into scope base is to try to keep optical zero as close to center at farthest range as expected engagement is. While still capable of 100 yard zero. That means at farthest distance you are looking through the center/best least distortion portion of the scope 1 like
