... A great young man in Wyoming asked me what sort of stuff I made at the Tennessee machine shop tech school I attended in the late '70s. This Arbor Press was the last thing I made in school. I had actually run through the syllabus and came up with this arbor press just to kill time. It was almost lost until recently when the toolroom guys discovered it thrown outside. They saved it from the junk pile, cleaned it up, and put it on top of my old toolbox. That base was my first lesson in interrupted cuts. 🤓 ML

  -  tarheeltactical @mikey_jay_710 any chance you still have the blueprint?
  -  laruetactical @tarheeltactical ... Naw, I drew it up on a napkin. But I got someone at the shop that can draw it up on Solidworks in a blink of an eye. Note to self .... ML 1 like
  -  tarheeltactical @laruetactical I like the adjustable height aspect. It's kinda a cross between my mill stop and my arbor press.
  -  madunn83 @laruetactical I'm using the GI Bill now for a machining degree to focus on opening a gunsmithing business. us 4 likes

huntermccrary Which tech school did you attend in TN I went to moore tech in Memphis
  -  laruetactical @huntermccrary ... It was through ORAU (Oak Ridge Associated University). They ran a 6-month cram course in "Machining Technology" at the north end of Y-12.
  -  huntermccrary @laruetactical very cool

brock_strong Sir, what part of TN are you from?
  -  laruetactical @brock_strong ... Geographically speaking, the far right part. 🤓 2 likes
  -  texpenn04 @laruetactical that press looks as clean and well put together as a OBR fresh out of final assembly. Looking at it now, with out a doubt, it has "Mark LaRue" written all over it. Well done, Sir. 1 like

parttime_dirtbag Back when Tech Schools taught stuff instead of "read the book/ watch this YouTube video"
  -  laruetactical @parttime_dirtbag ... One day I'm gonna retire and teach a hands-on machining/cussing class. Like I said earlier, I was raised in the Cold War between deployments by my submariner dad. Read "Blind Man's Bluff" for a blow by blow of the submarine's roll in the Cold War. So I was never in the Navy, but I did take their language course. ;-) 3 likes
