... The point is the worst thing you can do is have your buddy stand on the hard case to help you get the latches to lock. Best to have the rifle absolutely "loose" inside the case, with zero pressure applied against it ... of course this all made sense after I was told 👀 ML

  -  project_jedburgh @laruetactical quality rifles deserve projecting
houstoncustomfoam Great. A new selling point for me.

charliesclones I remember Arnold Palmer's wife on the late night Johnny Carson show explaining that she used his her husband's balls the night before a major tournament fir good luck. I believe she was referring to his golf balls 😂 2 likes

  -  laruetactical @charliesclones ... But, to your point, yes, it's best if your rifle is "free balling" inside those hard cases 6 likes

savageguns089 Man is a damn legend. nice guy too, he came to train guys at my old command years ago, I was the support guy range tech and he took time to talk to me and give me pointers. 1 like
tubefitter61 It makes sense. If Uneven torque on your scope mounts effect accuracy why wouldn't the stresses of being pressed into a case. It couldn't be much stress but in a games of thousands every little bit helps. 1 like

thirtythree_three Interesting. Do you recall the type of rifle he was using? 5 likes
  -  laruetactical @thirtythree_three ... What does it matter the type of rifle he didn't stomp shut in a hard case after the day's shooting ? 1 like
  -  thirtythree_three @laruetactical Just curious about materials. I imagine a wood system with older-style scope mounts would be more susceptible than, say, an MRAD or AI with a LaRue Mount. Just curious. It would also be interesting to test effects of leaving a system baking in the sun vs covered. 3 likes
  -  laruetactical @og_scottiep ... Another nay sayer ... hehehe, I'm guessing you've never hooked up a sickle-bar mower onto the back of a live-PTO equipped Massey Ferguson tractor. If you had, you would've noticed that big sickle bar, even though it's made of lots of steel, goes "boing !!" when you snatch it up at the end of the mowing cut. Yet, if you have your head out of your ass, it will still cut a good straight row even though it shows such flexibility. 🚜
  -  laruetactical @og_scottiep ... Common sense is common sense. But if you're in need of testing, knock yourself out.
  -  laruetactical @og_scottiep ... "no, I'm not standing on them" ... in that case, you aren't a test case. ... just someone looking to argue ... and apparently seeing Bennie's name triggered you. If you have any qualudes left, use force and break one in half. You'll need the other half for tomorrow's internet.

  -  laruetactical @zachary_stein ... Ha, pull your scoped rifle out of a hard case you stomped it into a few days before you stepped on the flight you flew to a match in, then shoot the "Make it and Take It" stage first. 7 likes

flintlockchip Most people calling this bunk aren't actually accurate enough to notice the difference, another example is If you leave weight on a barbell for a long enough period of time while in a rack it will bend.
  -  laruetactical @flintlockchip ... It's comforting knowing there's a certain segment that gets it. Thanks for the good example. 1 like

joey3021 It's almost like hard cases have foam that you can trim out to inlay your rifle. 2 likes
mdrumscarter My Pelican hard case with cut out foam to fit the rifle closes easy. If you have to force or stomp the case closed that's not good anytime on any rifle 6 likes

czfanatic This theory is 100% true and tremendously amplified with high powered air rifles.

ghostmarmot Ok I have questions, did someone actually do that? Stand on a case just so it'll close that is.
  -  latewhitehunter @ghostmarmot the troops do it all the time. When you have to fit 1.5 a carbine, extra upper, pistol, grenade launcher, 15 mags, NVG, MBITR, and half a machine gun in to a pelican case designed for one hunting rifle, you do what you have to do! 1 like

hildreth.casey This may help put it in prospective. @cooley.bennie can see the shift because he places no negative external influence on the ballistic solution consistently. Most of us can't hold the difference. That said, always confirm zero in the event of a large shift. 1 like
