... Since we're on the topic of 6.5 Grendels ... back in 2008, the fine folks at Burris invited me up to Colorado to elk hunt on the Trout Creek Ranch, it's south of Steamboat Springs. I flew my Navion L-17B up and landed in a feedlot in Greeley, CO, rented a car and drove in from there. Day 1 a bull strolled out of the timber 415 yards away. I had the Burris dialed in on my 6.5 Grendel and knew what to do. Wind was howling into my face quartering in from the right. My cheat sheet said 20" of wind, so I took an off-the- hair best guess and sent one. I was rock solid, shooting off a BOG bipod and knew I had him dead to rights. He wheeled left and dropped into the timber. I found him an hour later just 10 yards from where he was standing when I shot him clean through with that one shot. One shot, one kill. The meat is processed and taking up the Navion's backseat, underneath the cape. Good hunting to us all this fall 🦌 ML ... P.S. This may still be the longest over-400-yards 1-shot-with-a-6.5G elk kill 🤷

samuel.culper_sr Is this the one where the guide questioned you taking the scope off your rifle?
  -  laruetactical @samuel.culper_sr ... LOL, yeah, I had just put two bullets an inch apart in the bullseye at 325 yards, then I yanked the scope off to show him what it was I did exactly. You could see the chill of discomfort roll through him 😂 3 likes
  -  samuel.culper_sr @laruetactical I remember that story! Damn... it's been a long time. Have a good day Mark!
joewbyrd Great story! I have used my LaRue 6.5 Grendel hunting whitetail and hogs for the last 3 three years. From a 400 pound hog to a 230 pound deer, every harvest has been one shot and down. Don't even get the .398 of 300 WM out of the safe anymore. 1 like
curtis_carp Believe it or not ML, I was looking for a new caliber for my AR. When I read the article about you taking that elk it was the first time I had heard of Larue Tactical. So I started doing a little research because I'm mainly a handgunner. Within a month of the article I ordered my 6.5G from SSK industries. Mainly because I had done lots of business with JD and he made great products. After that I've been a Larue tactical guy. Thanks for great products. 2 likes
  -  laruetactical @curtis_carp ... JD ... there's a blast from the past. JD attended the annual Small Arms Symposium held in New Jersey that year, some 20 or so years ago. He brought to the demo day (held at Ft Dix) a bolt action anti-tank rifle. He let me shoot it 4 times. I found out later JD's cost on the damn shells was $40 apiece 😳 I felt like a heel 👀 5 likes
  -  installit4me @curtis_carp same here. I have 5 6.5 Grendel's, love that round. 👏
advancedshootinganalytics Ha. Big bull. Did you feel tail heavy? No idea about Navion weight and balance but it would have me thinking.
  -  laruetactical @advancedshootinganalytics ... A Navion will fly with whatever you can close the canopy on.
awilliams30808 That's awesome! I have received my tracking info and will have it here mid week.....now I gota find something to feed it! Can't find ammo or brass to reload with out paying exaggerated prices!
  -  guay.ron @awilliams30808 the hoarding and new firearm sales has definitely turned this into a Rich Mans sport when it comes to ammo
  -  awilliams30808 @guay.ron agreed....I prefer to reload but I can't even find brass 1 like

  -  perez2021juan Thanks for sharing. Great bull you got there, with a really nice shot from a great rifle. 2008 doesn't that long ago to me.......but it's a full 13 years ago. Time's a flying. God bless my friend 😇 1 like
laruetactical @joewbyrd ... I set up to type an integer just to see what number was was close to the 9 in ".398" ... ha, duh, the 0 is next to the 9 ... meaning "you leave your 308 and 300 WM in the safe" 2 likes
  -  joewbyrd @laruetactical yep, fat fingered that one!
sig1855 @laruetactical would a Hornady Black 123 grain ELD match be comparable?
