... Here's a snippet of the mold running. No, it's not that fast, and for those of you wondering, it has a 51 second cycle time. The way injection molding works is the machine melts the plastic pellets to about 600 degrees F, then squirts the molten plastic into the mold with the force of Zeus, then pumps chilled water through the mold's steel to solidify the part. Then it opens and let's that bad boy fall out. ML

  -  laruetactical @j_frank24_ ... Hydraulic auger / feed screw feeds the preset amount of plastic forward past a seal (can't remember what that seal is called). The whole assy is pushed forward by a meanass hydraulic cylinder, forcing the plastic through a narrow orifice into the mold. The shear of the plastic going through the orifice adds even more heat to further melt the plastic. The mold is held together by hydraulics and toggles, as forcing the plastic in wants to turn the mold into it's own hydraulic cylinder ... force of Zeus and all that - ML 3 likes

roaming_91 Neat
mcgrubbs That vid is oddly satisfying
  -  laruetactical @mcgrubbs ... The guys have continued playing with parameters and have it making a great part with a 37 second cycle time - ML 1 like
hollandcarvalho What are these parts for again?
  -  hollandcarvalho @laruetactical By the way I have one of your very early PredatOBRs 5.56 and it truly is an amazing rifle. One of the tightest shooting rifles I've ever owned. Flipping off the gas and shooting customs loads, allows me to nail targets out 950-1000yrds with relative ease! It always makes me smile!
  -  thirtythree_three @hollandcarvalho see the prior or later post. It's a case for the triggers to ship inside....not a gun part per say.
thesumotherguy Reminds me of those dinosaur models you could have made at science museum's as a kid. 2 likes
randomgyro That is the most adorable mold I've ever seen. 😬 The ones I used to run could crush a packed-full hippie bus. 😂 Injection molding is fun though.
fanorwood Enough already! I'll buy another trigger (and the new package is the color of my people...)
everydaypeoplesigp365 Get a fanuc. Incredibly more reliable, minimal energy, no leaks and zero defect production. Thank me later with a free 'one of everything in your inventory' 😂 1 like
  -  laruetactical @everydaypeoplesigp365 ... Thanks, but I got a room full of Van Dorns. They run like a nuclear clock and match my motif - ML 7 likes
  -  everydaypeoplesigp365 @laruetactical great to hear. It's a fun process
  -  300memeout @laruetactical Van Dorns also last forever, I'm still running production on one from 1962.
  -  bushidofes @laruetactical Awesome. I grew up in a Tool and Die Shop with Injection Molding machines. The only machines we bought were Trubors later morphing into Van Dorn.. Our oldest machine is still running 1978... 1 like
fieldcraft.training That's pretty damn cool!
easyeastsails Trigger packaging?
weaponeered I could watch these machines all day, couldnt fit 4 in one mold? 🎉🎉
  -  laruetactical @weaponeered ... We don't make the meticulously made triggers (MBT) fast enough to need multi-cavities ;-) ML 3 likes
  -  weaponeered @laruetactical sounds like you need a pallet pool with tombstones 😏 😂👀
