... With a heavy heart, I must post this Public Service Announcement ... I grabbed my beloved Image Stabilizing Canon Binoculars last week, only to find I had forgotten to pull the batteries out when I put them away after that 2017 Packhorse Elk Hunt. The batteries had puked their nasty, corrosive acids out and damn ... hatred. Do yourself a favor right now and go pull batteries out of everything you got stored that uses batteries 💀💀💀 ML

thepositiveninja Eeek, sorry that happened! That happened to me with my headsets 1 like
amaikaimiller I only use lithium batteries in everything I own. This has happened too many times to me. Luckily my ruined electronics were probably less expensive. But still a bummer. 1 like
  -  laruetactical @amaikaimiller ... I'm glad I made this post ... gonna purge all my stuff and replace with the lithiums y'all suggested. 3 likes
  -  ryanwyman2 @laruetactical the natural acidity of white vinegar (along w some q tips, small stiff bristled nylon brushes, and the occasional carburetor pic/s and Emory cloth) works well to clean the corrosive alkaline material left behind, as well as neutralize any further corrosion. 2 likes
all4freedom Oh come on if anyone can fix this it is ML! 😃
def3va Lithium batteries FTW 1 like
nathan_j_mack Lithium Ion for the win. Hopefully they'll repair them for you

pewkev Everything I own that uses batteries are all lithium, well worth the cost.
legionpreparedness Yep muey importantante 👍
natedag87 If you can't get them running, call whoever made the batteries. Chances are they have a warranty
thedollarsportsman Crap; if you clean off the acid it may still work. I got a couple things to start working again after carefully getting enough gunk off
fire_arms_channel Brass wire brush
pdxsharpshooter Get a steel sponge and start scrubbing
fiesta346 How goods that canon warranty 🤔
partizanpeasant Lithium Only !!!

stillsaltyaf_ 😢😢
fcook909 Duracell has a guarantee they will replace or repair that at no cost to you.
jack_haber Had a PVS14 that experienced alkaline batt leakage. Was clued in when the thing wouldn't turn on. Luckily I was able to clean it out and switch to a lithium batt, fired right up. Already lost electronic ear pro to a leak
breaux38 Craig's DeOxit sprayed on ear swabs will clean it like new.
air.177 Lithium AA and AAA are worth the cost
  -  legionpreparedness @air.177 not if you can't recharge them in the field. They definitely have a place tho
  -  air.177 @legionpreparedness i mean lithium primaries. Tape/velcro a pair or two to the sling and another half dozen or so in your bag you are in business.
ewdeters I was looking at them today. Canon now makes their first waterproof IS models.
surfinnh Ive fucked up like this so many times
adamcharles64 Try scrubbing the contacts with an eraser from a pencil
pen_sword_life That's some serious fuckery 😮 I hope you can mend it.
m4colt223 1 teaspoon baking soda and water, scrub with a nylon brush, rinse and let dry. "I've seen me do it"
brett__2021 Battery vomit killed a GPS a while back.. so awful.
p.e.henry Coke a Cola does wonders to remove corrosion. It has to be OG Coke. None of this diet or zero calorie nonsense.
nofaded1234 Back in the 90s we used to just clean the device if that happened! (old grumpy grandpa noises)
  -  laruetactical @nofaded1234 ... Look close at the pics and you'll see important doo-dads have rotted off.
  -  nofaded1234 @laruetactical OOF! Maybe clean and solder back together? Man that sucks
