... My first girlfriend had a big rack. No actually, it was her mom that had the big rack. Ya see, her mom dabbled in antiques, and I found this set of old 14-point antlers in her antique shop, with skull attached, and I rescued them (actually, I had to haggle a price and buy them). I was deer hunting then and knew just what I wanted those antlers for. I remembered that scene on "Shenandoah" of those two brothers sitting up in a tree in a downpour, rattling a buck up. So, after my rescue, I stupidly hack-sawed them off the skull, forever ending ever getting a chance to measure it for Boone & Crockett. Some people's kids. Anyhow, deer season arrived and I took off into the woods with nothing but a movie scene in mind. I was unsuccessful. Then they became a problem, they weighed more than I did at the time, so hiking them became a hardship. I actually hid them in Scott County Tennessee in a spot I knew well, and retrieved them later. Now we leave the land of Boone and Crockett and move to the land of Davy Crockett ... Texas. Several years after I moved to the Lone Star state, I ran into that taxidermist over in Marble Falls, on 281, south of the river. He implored me to entrust said antlers to him and he'd find the right cape for it and damned if he didn't and it turned out amazing. The End. ML
