... Wire EDM - a gazillion lightning bolts per gazilisecond coming off that 0.012" brass wire blows a 0.014" slot straight through that aluminum lower as if Thor himself did it ... making the straightest, most precise magwell, period. My guys know my answer to everything is always "Let's wire the sumbitch!" ML

torti850 That's awesome! Heard you talk a lot about it but very cool to actually see 3 likes
michigan3gunner That's part of what makes a really good lower.
samuel.culper_sr Always wanted to learn wire EDM. Stuck running Swiss turns right now and occasionally a 5 axis mill 1 like
  -  laruetactical @bubbkill ... "Stuck running Swiss turns" is not the attitude you seek. Swiss turns are a marvel of this world ... subspindles synchronizing with the main spindle, sneaking in and snatching a part back to finish the back side and toss it onto the parts catcher, without getting touched by human hands .... it catches my breath 💪🔥💪🔥 18 likes
  -  samuel.culper_sr @laruetactical yeah- you're right. We did get some new ones that actually allow for tool touch off. The older ones run like a dream but lack the ability to touch off the tooling. You have to go off the offsets from the last time the job was run and adjust from there . With an .080 swing it's a bit tedious at times. We also switch jobs about once a week and they weren't designed for that. They were designed to run the same job for really long periods of time. Ground bar would also help. We get bar that's five different dimensions within a two foot span. Lots of guide bushing adjustment when your trying to hold a + or - .0002- sorry... I was rambling. Thanks for helping me improve my outlook! I needed that! 1 like
  -  seaskihunt @laruetactical our swiss machines make money so the rest of the shop can mess around with R&D. 6 B0326s turning 24/7. Warms my icy heart.
dkoenig1134 Zinc coated wire would burn through it faster and with less breakage but it's dirty and would eat up ur rollers. 1 like

the_josh_honeycutt I just managed to get an older small edm hole popper for free... even if I cant get it going it's got a nice cross slide that is worth having to load the damn thing. I can only dream of my own wire edm 👍
  -  laruetactical @the_josh_honeycutt ... Our toolroom has a hole popper - need to sock a wire starter hole through 62 Rockwell, not a problem. ML 1 like
