... An agency asked me to do a can-off, can-on test for them. I did. I shot a 5-shot group with no can (upper left group), then I put a TranQuilo on and shot a 5-shot group (upper right group. The first shot out of the can is circled. Then I removed the can and shot lower left group. Then reinstalled can and shot a 5-shot group (lower right group). Again, 1st shot is circled. 16" 7.62 PredatOBR, NightForce scope, Federal 168 Gold Medal Match. The MBT-2S makes doing this sort of thing easy. Oh, and recoil is non-existent with can on. ML

def3va Did the Agency dictate the FGMM 168's?

the.dmeier Man, I had an upper kit all picked out and ready to buy, but the Kung-Flu killed my job for for a bit. I'll be ordering ASAP. Awesome results!
thiswildadventure Why do we think the first suppressed shots are so far off the groups? We know it's not cold bore. Do we think it's the presence of atmospheric gas in the can? 4 likes
  -  laruetactical @thiswildadventure ... Dunno, but I do know "So far off" is a bit of an exaggeration.
  -  thiswildadventure @laruetactical Try to stay on topic, Mark. And 10 inches off at 1000 yards is not a small discrepancy. 1 like
laruetactical @thiswildadventure ... Speaking of staying on topic, I'm gonna flop my fat ass down on the ban button.🤓
  -  laruetactical @thiswildadventure ... Back on topic, halfway to that group's center is not 1". ... it's more like 0.550" which makes 5 and a half inches off at 1,000. But you got wind and "return fire artillery" stuff to worry about first.
  -  thiswildadventure @laruetactical I will trust your numbers, as you have the target, and the ruler. I'm interested in what we think would cause the first suppressed shots to consistently land differently than the follow-ups. 1 like
billy_nuckles @thiswildadventure it could be the additional weight of the suppressor on the barrel, could be the additional mass is now changing the resonant frequency of the barrel, could be a number of factors. I believe just about every suppressor has a POI shift.
  -  thiswildadventure @billy_nuckles You are talking about POI shift of the whole suppressed group. I am talking about POI shift of the very first shot of the suppressed groups. Those are two very different things.
  -  laruetactical @thiswildadventure ... a 5-shot group is a 5-shot ... and that test (warts and all) is what it is. In reality, a warfighter is gonna have the can on all the time. Who wants to shoot with the can off when they have a can ? 1 like
  -  thiswildadventure @laruetactical Agreed 100%. 4 LT rifles here, and two TranQuilos. More mounts than you can throw a stick at. Fanboyism is real. I will have to pay more attention the first shots out of my Tranquilos to see if they do the same as what's pictured here. 1 like
