... I commissioned a very bright individual to find me the origins of the magical 140 dB number ... here is his report -👂- discuss - ML

bulletandgrunt06 Looking forward to mine arriving. Got a ship notice this morning, it was a NOLO dillo though. 🤣
  -  deadeye001 @bulletandgrunt06 when did you order? Just trying to guess when mine might show up
  -  bulletandgrunt06 @deadeye001 end of November. 8 month lead time if I remember correctly.
  -  bulletandgrunt06 @deadeye001 sorry. Are you asking about the SUURG or dillo? 🤣
angrygingertx People underestimate how much quieter a 140 dB gunshot is compared to an unsuppressed one. Until they hear them back to back, especially in an indoor range. You immediately realize people who shoot unsuppressed are savages. 7 likes
svargas41 I fired 81mm Mortars in the Corp. my high tones are shot. Concerts are unbearable. Shooting I'm just fine if I'm outdoors. But indoor ranges take a quick toll. The result is hearing aids at 47. Needed them 10 years ago but was in denial. Wish I would have done better to take care of my hearing when I was younger. 5 likes
pnhurst I call BS you can take 8000 rounds at 140 db and NOT experience loss. But hey, they are your ears go for it, Dr. Fauci says it is OK. 4 likes

  -  unopposable_thumbs @pnhurst @laruetactical math is harder for some than other. And science. Sentence structure too apparently 😂
  -  hair_raiser_kennels @pnhurst that's only if your wearing 2 masks while shooting
  -  laruetactical @hair_raiser_kennels .. One mask over each ear since the flu is known to enter through the ears canals 12 likes

marcknapp What?
ryandconner Facts. People don't generally think that driving with the windows down, riding a motorcycle, working in a machine shop, or having kids does more damage to their hearing than gunshots.
  -  bdclone @ryandconner even with some full face helmets i ride with earplugs. That wind noise will mess you up on long days. I had tried a helmet comm system on a helmet once. When the volume was turned all the way up it was extremely load and hard to bare when not moving. Above 65 or 70 mph the wind noise was drowning out the speakers. This was on a Honda VTX 1800 with no fairing.
papa_sprouse_85 Huh? Say again

beefsnguns Would love to see the @laruetactical TranQuilo put through their paces by @pewsciencellc and @thejaysituation 3 likes
  -  laruetactical @beefsnguns ... I have sound meters... since I design and build my suppressors, Tranquilos, having sound meters is a necessity 🤷 1 like
  -  jjmax1776 @laruetactical he has high fidelity recording equipment that measures duration of the impulse not just peak decibels. He is practically your neighbor and is setting the silencer industry on fire. Pretty cool nonbiased independent testing and results on his website. 1 like
  -  laruetactical @jjmax1776 ... If we're neighbors, he stays well hid. 1 like
  -  laruetactical @jjmax1776 ... Set the world on fire ? What has anybody learned about what he's doing ? Suppressors are still just gun mufflers that have been around for a century. The more powder behind the bullet, the more muffler needed 🤷 1 like
  -  beefsnguns @laruetactical he's been showing that just adding "more muffler" doesn't make as much of an improvement as using newly designed mufflers 1 like
  -  laruetactical @beefsnguns ... I make "newly designed" mufflers that drop the backpressure to near nothing. You said he wasn't biased, but just said he's pushing complicated cans. Sounds like this century's "Suppressor Test"
beefsnguns @laruetactical does this mean that you would be opposed to an independent third party testing your product?
laruetactical @beefsnguns ... Look who's biased now.
  -  laruetactical @beefsnguns ... That's an old ploy what you did there. At no point did I say anything about so-called "independent testing", yet you question me on it. Speaking of you, at what date did you finally quit beating your wife ? 1 like
  -  beefsnguns @laruetactical seemed pretty heavily implied when your response to me saying that @thejaysituation and @pewsciencellc testing the TranQuilo would be cool was "I have sound meters"
  -  laruetactical @beefsnguns ... Oh wow, more assumptions, sure sounds like there's a hook-up in progress.
  -  beefsnguns @laruetactical if by hook-up you mean consumers are finally understanding which suppressors are superior and which are not, than yes there is a massive hook-up
  -  laruetactical @beefsnguns ... A superior can is $400 with the purchase of a superior Ultimate Upper Kit .... and comes with zero backpressure. 1 like
jointdocshields Damage occurs from sudden extremely loud sounds, and but more often cumulative noise in an environment. Since decibels increase exponentially, every bit of reduction matters.
jointdocshields Also, being exposed to loud noises on a consistent basis resets your own set point or threshold for what you consider "loud" - hence why you talk much louder after being in a loud environment all day
chuckjunk The information provided is factually correct, but you're overlooking one important thing. On February 26, 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed Executive Order 12196 which does gives an exception for uniformed military personnel from having to follow OSHA. It is essentially a get out of jail free card, and it isn't right.
  -  laruetactical @chuckjunk ... Not sure how the Peanut Cartel has anything to do with this thread, meaning I overlooked nothing 🤷
  -  chuckjunk @laruetactical 👍🏽
treylillich If I am not mistaken 140 db would require dual hearing protection, at least in a refinery.
