... Any of y'all know what in the Sam Hill happened to Uncle Sam's S.U.R.G. Project ? Note the lack of smoke coming out of the ejection port ... we knocked our nuts off to build what we thought was the perfect solution, and the dB measured around 137 dB on our sophisticated gear when we packed ‘em into the plane and flew them up to Crane. But then their gear said we was 140.8 dB, or thereabouts 🤷 ... kicking us out of the running. Oh well, 7 years of college shot to hell 🤪 ML
2,327 likesstetsonamericanhorse I love mine in 300Blk but it is louder shooting 300blk subsonic than a SureFire SOCOM can on a 10.3" 5.56 upper shooting 62gr which seems contradictory. 2 likes
  -  laruetactical @stetsonamericanhorse ... Flow thru cans are a different tone. 6 likes
  -  stetsonamericanhorse @laruetactical I also have the TranQuilo for my PredatOBR and love the lack of gas on longer range rapid hammered pairs - have never gotten gassed out. 1 like

  -  laruetactical @tacconcan ... You know the definition of a "moment"? That's the time that elapses between when you thought you were gonna fart, but then realized you crapped your pants. 😎 13 likes

  -  perez2021juan Man I was imagining the other day ....... a tOBR style handguard for A3 upper receivers....... There'd be a tOBR-style plate with prongs that the barrel nut secures to the Larue A3 Billet upper ..... with something to time it up straight ....... then comes the beautiful tOBR style, detachable handguard with the levers that grab those prongs, then closes shut. @laruetactical am I just dreaming or could that actually happen?? 🤦🧐 It could come in mLok or grippy panels 1 like
funkycoldmedico dB meter is good for one thing. Telling you a reading right now with that particular weapon system and ammo in that particular place. Cloud goes over the sun and a lizard farts and the readings change. 26 likes

  -  willkana @laruetactical I have a 556 SURG and would really like. 300 BLK OUT as well. Any chance they will come back?
  -  telluride368 @laruetactical it's almost like changes in air density and humidity affect how sound travels through air. 1 like
highflyingbean I certainly enjoy my tranquilos, probably the best for keeping gas out of my face. They are certainly heavy, especially the SURG but definitely clean. I have a few brands and enjoy them for different reasons. 5 likes

  -  some_guy_ontheinternet @laruetactical not sure about numbers but they are in the field.
  -  dirtyred455 @laruetactical they've been fielding them to the Special Ops, Rangers and Recon units. They always get first dibs.

1893_woodworking Could be determined by how close they measured sound pressure level to the chamber or to the barrel. If they measured closer than 3 feet to the source that could cause the DB level to be ~3db or more higher. It also matters how the positioned the sensor vs. how you did in your testing. If the sensor was placed down range from the muzzle, that could also be why they showed a higher sound pressure level. If you were behind as your video shows the SPL could be lower. I sort of do this thing as a jobby job, so..... I was a Navy Submariner, SONAR Tech previously, so sound pressure level measurements are one of my things. 2 likes
  -  1893_woodworking @1893_woodworking it should be noted that 3 feet (1 yard) is the reference distance to measure SPL to be able to calculate propagation loss over distance. The prop loss calculation is 10LogR or 20LogR as it relates to sound spreading. You lose 60dB of sound intensity in the first 1000 yards when sound pressure is measured in water. In air it is even more so because the medium (air) is less dense. So in the first 1000 yards in air the sound intensity experiences about 120db of loss. And you'll see about 12db of loss for every doubling of range thereafter. https://dosits.org/science/sounds-in-the-sea/how-does-sound-in-air-differ-from-sound-in-water/ 2 likes

mylocalgunshop well shit, I'll still take one 😂
guns_n_oil_revival Man this would be amazing to see @thejaysituation test with @pewsciencellc. Low back pressure, great suppression suppressors are all the rage right now and the consumer market has rewarded those companies thoroughly. Would love to see a Texas company be rewarded where due 3 likes

mariooropeza I was so bummed out when I finally received my mil xfr orders and be able to place the online order on the SURG upper to find it was removed from from the website. Hoping it'll come back.
stetsonamericanhorse I love mine in 300Blk with subsonic ammo and it has no noticeable gas blowback and runs like a sewing machine. However, it does sound louder than a 10.3" 5.56 upper with a SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 shooting supersonic 62gr - which surprised me.
fullbore115b Your early Aboptar price point for the complete SURG weapon is the best value for the dollar I've ever had, by a country mile. Suppressed precision SBR for that small cheddar? Maybe my best purchase ever. And, I love the weapon. My thanks from a former Naval Aviator, Mark 1 like
camfeikema I believe this was "in the bag" for the awarded company prior to the solicitation release. This was a fun project tho. I did the majority of design work on this for the SureFire entry for S.U.RG. and a few revisions after. Some really fun and outside the box ideas to make a suppressed upper receiver group with minimal gas blowback. 1 like

  -  debin_11 @compton.bryan I completely forgot about that. Yes I would need that one too!
stevenzhouusa Put it back on the web!
tallmanjw @laruetactical love my SURG!!
crdutt Just got mine out of jail 🙌
40grit_man I love it! Now, we have to fight our asses off to get suppressors legal and unrestricted for everyone's happiness. Your neighbors will thank you, and so will your ears! Peoples misconceptions of suppressors are completely lost in the HOLLYWOOD movies that make it sound like zero noise, which is a falsehood that has made its way into our political world. They actually believe that shots are unnoticeable with suppressors. Anyone who has shot suppressors knows that is just not based on facts. Even with subsonic ammo, there is always a sound that is loud enough to be heard. 6 likes
  -  spentbrasscasing @40grit_man My old man used to say " Some day it will be against the law to fire a weapon without a suppressor ". I'm still waiting.....Dad... 2 likes

crppilot That election was sold to the highest kick back -
prosteelrain That ejection pattern is what impressed me, with everything going on its consistently 2 or 3 O'clock. These rifles seem very squared away, it's kinda sad to see the chrony capitalism of the military industrial complex destitute a truly forward thinking design. Id wager that these would outsell the Pred. Series if you sold them to civs.. 1 like
chaseconcealment I'd want a larue over the spear. Gotta kill the keymod of course but regardless the good stuff sig may put out, I favor larue over sig in general. Just my 2c
will_dissent wish the LaRue SUURG would come back online. need 2 more ... .300BO / 6.5 Gren. & another 5.56 . Best DI suppressor I've used.
thechestcracker If you sell these people will buy them even more with the heat cover but maybe not keyMod. Just curious - as the owner and proud American when you get one result and send it to the government for testing and they get another for whatever crooked as reason - how do you handle that ? Like when your team of extreme athletes doesn't perform ? Do people get canned ? You share a lot of your life with us - it's just a question if you have time to respond .
