... Any of y'all know what in the Sam Hill happened to Uncle Sam's S.U.R.G. Project ? Note the lack of smoke coming out of the ejection port ... we knocked our nuts off to build what we thought was the perfect solution, and the dB measured around 137 dB on our sophisticated gear when we packed ‘em into the plane and flew them up to Crane. But then their gear said we was 140.8 dB, or thereabouts 🤷 ... kicking us out of the running. Oh well, 7 years of college shot to hell 🤪 ML

There'd be a tOBR-style plate with prongs that the barrel nut secures to the Larue A3 Billet upper ..... with something to time it up straight ....... then comes the beautiful tOBR style, detachable handguard with the levers that grab those prongs, then closes shut. @laruetactical am I just dreaming or could that actually happen?? 🤦🧐 It could come in mLok or grippy panels 1 like
funkycoldmedico dB meter is good for one thing. Telling you a reading right now with that particular weapon system and ammo in that particular place. Cloud goes over the sun and a lizard farts and the readings change. 26 likes

highflyingbean I certainly enjoy my tranquilos, probably the best for keeping gas out of my face. They are certainly heavy, especially the SURG but definitely clean. I have a few brands and enjoy them for different reasons. 5 likes

1893_woodworking Could be determined by how close they measured sound pressure level to the chamber or to the barrel. If they measured closer than 3 feet to the source that could cause the DB level to be ~3db or more higher. It also matters how the positioned the sensor vs. how you did in your testing. If the sensor was placed down range from the muzzle, that could also be why they showed a higher sound pressure level. If you were behind as your video shows the SPL could be lower. I sort of do this thing as a jobby job, so..... I was a Navy Submariner, SONAR Tech previously, so sound pressure level measurements are one of my things. 2 likes
- 1893_woodworking @1893_woodworking it should be noted that 3 feet (1 yard) is the reference distance to measure SPL to be able to calculate propagation loss over distance. The prop loss calculation is 10LogR or 20LogR as it relates to sound spreading. You lose 60dB of sound intensity in the first 1000 yards when sound pressure is measured in water. In air it is even more so because the medium (air) is less dense. So in the first 1000 yards in air the sound intensity experiences about 120db of loss. camfeikema I believe this was "in the bag" for the awarded company prior to the solicitation release. This was a fun project tho. I did the majority of design work on this for the SureFire entry for S.U.RG. and a few revisions after. Some really fun and outside the box ideas to make a suppressed upper receiver group with minimal gas blowback. 1 like

40grit_man I love it! Now, we have to fight our asses off to get suppressors legal and unrestricted for everyone's happiness. Your neighbors will thank you, and so will your ears! Peoples misconceptions of suppressors are completely lost in the HOLLYWOOD movies that make it sound like zero noise, which is a falsehood that has made its way into our political world. They actually believe that shots are unnoticeable with suppressors. Anyone who has shot suppressors knows that is just not based on facts. Even with subsonic ammo, there is always a sound that is loud enough to be heard. 6 likes
