... I think I posted this station a while back. It's old school, but there's a lot going on here and I like it. ML

toofman Non-machinists here: Why does it look like it's wobbly?
  -  barnegat16 @toofman I think it finds a natural center when the guide enters the hole. 2 likes
  -  alamo_jake @toofman am wondering the same thing 🤔
  -  toofman @barnegat16 so which end of the barrel is this?
  -  barnegat16 @toofman I'm not a machinist either. Just thinking about other mechanical stuff.

txnorseman Let me buy 6.5cm barrels!
tinch357 I'm guessing it floats(wobbles) because the bore isn't always concentric to the outside diameter so the pin on the end of the cutter indexes off the bore or lands so the counter bore is cut concentric to the bore. Looks too steep of an agle to be a crown so I guessing that's to turn the barrel between centers on the lathe. Correct me if I'm wrong. I am also curious. 2 likes
  -  direct.impingement @tinch357 not to speak for ML but you got it! Lets the bore be the guide so you cut the crown centered. That old three jaw would probably never hold the bore perfectly on center with dialing it in every time. That leave of accuracy may not be needed for a crown but the set up time would kill your productivity. 1 like
