... Grabbed a fresh reloading manual at BassPro. Comparing 6Creed to a 243Win ... looks like us Boomers were ahead of our time 😎 ML
253 likesewdeters I started looking at that as soon as you put out barrel choices. Hard to split those hairs with the data out there. The only thing I can think of is the creed may get the nod if your using longer mono bullets because of the shorter case. But with as long as .243 has been a great round I can only imagine finding a better bullet designed with the creed in mind won't be hard to get running in the .243.
  -  charliesclones @ewdeters what about barrel life with the large difference in pressures ? Velocity is similar and beyond impressive with both

  -  charliesclones @laruetactical sounds like a TX thing. We cannot find 500 yards of open space in VA. No ground hogs. I do watch with envy the nocturnal feral hog hunts. 😍 1 like
  -  ewdeters @charliesclones hard to tell I've yet to shoot out a barrel but I like to collect calibers so the round count gets spread around. I'm my experience you are just choosing if you want a heavier wind bucking round that you have to dope for or a faster round with less dope and less time to let the wind buck it. Over simplified but it plays into my need for more calibers. I'm not being 6.5CM for over 500 because I have a 300 Sherman and a 300WM. Similar ballistics but not even close when you hear them hit steel at range. 1 like
laruetactical ... BTW, I used the same twist rate on this 243 as we use in our 6ARCs ... 1-in-7.5" ... ML 8 likes

full_cyclic All this science/data and yet we produce barrels in .5 inch imperial increments. Measure powder to the granule but never consider much beyond the first decimal with barrel length it seems. I wonder why? Same with twist rate. Just curious if anyone knows.
  -  pewpewvette @full_cyclic read ballistics by the inch. Basically barrel length doesn't matter as much as you think it does. 100 fps here or there. 1 like

longrangecustoms 243 won a ton of bench and other competitions in its day. There is no slouch in that case. 2 likes
sundevil_99 I rebarrelled my .243 to 6 CM. That 1:10 wouldn't stabilize the bigger bullets as well. Went from 1 MOA to a lot better than I can shoot. Lol 1 like

  -  sundevil_99 @laruetactical true but it was fine on smaller projectiles, just not the 90+ And the 6CM with the higher twist stabilizes the 100s just fine. The twist rate does make a difference though Fuji & Granny Smiths 1 like
  -  laruetactical @sundevil_99 ... Did you rechamber your old 243 barrel or replace it with a new 6Creed barrel ? 1 like
  -  sundevil_99 @laruetactical had the factory Rem 700 .243 barrel removed and a new 6 CM barrel put on. Obviously a different twist rate as well. 1:10 to 1:8. Not knocking the 243 but if I was going to rebarrel, I wanted the more modern option. Thought about 243AI but didn't want to be 99% dependent on reloading especially with the pandemic reloading supply issues. 6CM Hornady PH is pretty available for factory options and a friend who shoots PRS used to shoot a 6CM so he had supplies and data. I just supplied components. 1 like

stumpwso If you chamber and twist the 243 and 260 correctly, they will be duplicates of the CMs
andy.chavers Speaking of twist rates .. what is the Siete 308 barrel twist rate ? Saw the 6.5 CM rate but didn't see any others
nativewarrior505 Damn, I was literally just asking the manager at Tractor Supply about this manual! Hopefully in the next few days I will find a copy!
the_aqua_ape Ammo selection and availability matters. Wish you guys would offer a 6mm creed and a rifle length gas system on a 18 inch grendel barrel as well.
kertmckeone Still have my Belgian Browning BAR .243. I killed a lot of deer and coyotes with it.
