... I blundered into a blast from the past tonight and saw it as a teaching moment. Way back when, during AR15.com's heyday ... there was a series of Threads/Contests called "1 MOA All Day Long". The participants shot five (5) 5-shot groups on one sheet of paper, and all five (5) groups had to average under 1 Minute of Angle (MOA). Here are the Top 25 of this 2014 thread. LaRue rifles appear to have dominated. I lost count of how many of the Top 25 shot LaRue rifles, and I also saw MBT triggers here and there. Post a count if you happen to count how many of the Top 25 were represented by LaRue rifles/uppers. Thanks and happy trails 😎 ML (P.S. Can anybody tell me how to add a "Branded Content" thing-a-ma-jig ?)

  -  teh_triggrmonkey @laruetactical @3sticksillustration also draws some really cool stuff. I've got a stack of his prints waiting on frames. 1 like
  -  shanecassiday @3sticksillustration I never posted on the thread but enjoyed following and competing internally, so thanks! I was a broke college kid just learning to hand load with my only centerfire rifle at the time, a CZ 527FS in 223. But I had a lot of fun challenging myself to shoot a target worth posting. I got that rifle shooting nice, but never could beat the larue posters. Guess thats why I decided to join them once I started making a dime! Cant beat em, join em! 😁 3 likes
  -  3sticksillustration @shanecassiday yeah. It was a cool challenge. I ran it for a while. It didn't really catch on at first. Another guy asked me if he could use my post etc. have him the blessing. Then it ended up with the current guy running it.
  -  rusty_keyboard @3sticksillustration It was a good challenge. I went back and checked where I fell in the rankings over the years. I never knew I won one year 😂 1 like

jacksondevaughan Very nice. Too bad 5 shot groups are statistically insignificant 1 like
  -  laruetactical @jacksondevaughan ... Yea, cause anything that needs shot is running after the 2nd shot 😎 13 likes
  -  cpl0313 @jacksondevaughan and we're off. 2 likes
  -  pewpewvette @jacksondevaughan Definitely should shoot 100 round groups to be sure. It's what the government would do. 1 like
  -  catnagat @jacksondevaughan how about five five shot groups? That's what I did for the FBI.
  -  romeolimawhiskey @jacksondevaughan according to the American Statistical Association, Statistical Significance isn't real anymore... "We conclude, based on our review of the articles in this special issue and the broader literature, that it is time to stop using the term "statistically significant" entirely. Nor should variants such as "nonsignificant" survive, whether expressed in words, by asterisks in a table, or in some other way." I'm sure you can guess why... 2 likes
  -  kilburnc @romeolimawhiskey ...well, one reason is that statistics (and trends) are constantly twisted to prove bias. Climate change is an example. It's only "real" because stats and trends are graphed and stated a certain way to show causality when most elements used to prove it are merely happenstance. Five shot group averages are data, not stats. 1 like
  -  laruetactical @kilburnc ... It's called the "1 MOA All Day" ... not "1 MOA for 1,000 years past the death of the barrel" 🤷 4 likes

gregbankston I'm not surprised by all the LaRues. They're the best in the game. My question is, how the hell'd that Rock River get in there? 🤨 4 likes
  -  will.a.chambers @gregbankston apparently you've never been to the National Matches at Camp Perry. RRA rifles are widely used, and perform extremely well. Most competitors will start off with a RRA rifle (which use Wilson blanks last I knew), then they'll swap in a Krieger barrel once the RRA is "shot out". 2 likes
kkllmmaall It has always irked me that the Larue's I have come with three round group test targets and a claim of whatever MOA it is. Give me 5 rounds and then make call.
  -  laruetactical @kkllmmaall .. Ship me a rifle you've made from scratch with a sub-moa 3-shot group shot with factory ammo, and I'll see if I can replicate or beat your group. If you can't make a rifle from scratch, then get back to me when you can. 3 likes
lablover114 I noticed a trend in these sub moa shooters. The common denominator in A LOT of these setups are Larue uppers, barrels, and MBT triggers. Wonder why that is????? 👍👍👍 1 like
az.competitive.shooter the mbt trigger is the best trigger ever made for the platform. 2 likes
alphaloris Are you updating your targets so new owners can take their own measure?
  -  laruetactical @alphaloris ... What does that mean ? 1 like
  -  alphaloris @laruetactical I was suggesting that you update the targets you include with orders to meet the criteria for this contest.
  -  laruetactical @alphaloris ... IIRC, those are downloadable on our LaRue.com website
eadie.steve I used to love shooting those MOA targets. I'm on that list twice and I am both happy and sad that I have been moved down in ranking. I am so close to breaking a 1/2 moa target in the bolt division now it is killing me. Proper practice makes perfect and a damn accurate rifle helps!
brackeen22 It was larue dominated and the others were lying 🧐
  -  catnagat @brackeen22 dpmmn never backed his claim.
esotericmagpie There's many guys that shoot sub moa, better than me, with the LaRue stealth barrel that's why I picked it for my precision build. 🤌
the_aqua_ape 3 shots prove the gun. 5 shots prove the shooter.
  -  3sticksillustration @the_aqua_ape that was the point 😊 1 like
medic.wv I haven't shot a 1/2" MOA since I was in the Army with my M21. Even with my premium barrels, 1.25" is my norm. Old eyes and poor cardio do not help marksmanship! 😑
will.a.chambers I remember when I was in the top 20, then all these Reardon Steel barrels showed up and pushed me down, LOL. Good stuff. 2 likes
j_frank24_ I counted 14 of the 25 using LT components. 4 likes

catnagat This is so weird. I brought this whole contest up earlier today because I personally know DPMMN and was talking about him getting perma banned from arfcom for lying and being called out. I'm in south Texas right now hunting pigs. I love Larue stuff, but Dan is full of shit. Just sayin. ..
  -  laruetactical @catnagat ... I was permabanned from GD simply because I don't suffer fools well. 1 like
  -  3sticksillustration @catnagat wow, lol. Memory lane. I don't remember why he was banned. Was it too tight of groups? Was Nick and some .mil guys calling him out to prove it? Man. That was so long ago. 1 like
  -  catnagat @3sticksillustration I don't remember who called him out but I thought his ban was related to this contest and claims. 1 like
