... "Trust the Science". There's a reason your recent elk hunting luck isn't like your granddad's was. Those monsters they let loose up there ain't like the Red Wolves of Louisiana. Find and study this whole eye-opening 😳 article. The situation now begs the question - "What now ?" 🤷 ML

  -  laruetactical @wild_man_dave ... The bears used to eat the sick and slow elk ... Now those have all been eaten with all the other elk. Guaranteed the bears went into hibernation with a couple more notches available on their belts. 😳 1 like
  -  wild_man_dave @laruetactical it's a good article. yea I would agree, Bears olfactory system is pretty astonishing to even sniff out calves that don't even really develop a scent yet . The hunting season was also hot AF this year and all the wallows were dry (especially where I was east of great falls) There's also loss of habitat, disease, vehicular accidents, drowning, agriculture expansion. .. depredation from wolves, bear, lion, coyote, wolverine, lynx, and I mean even eagles grab young enough ungulates. Then also.. if you look at us, trophy engineering. We keep taking the biggest strongest of the species. Because we want something impressive on the wall. (Same reason the Siberian Tiger went from a 900lb cat to 500 average because of the demand for trophy andddd Chinese black market). Anyways we're left with ... an average species. As time goes on all species will slowly decline and become extinct. Like caribou used to be in Maine.. then in the 1960s .. gone. I wouldn't be surprised if Elk disappear too and retract back into the thick and move north 2 likes
  -  laruetactical @wild_man_dave ... ☝ That's a depressing post 💀
  -  wild_man_dave @laruetactical cold hard truth. Old habits die hard. Merry Christmas
  -  legionpreparedness @wild_man_dave been saying this for years: modern hunters take the biggest & best while nature takes the weak first. If hunting just for meat, young doe taste better than a 6-10 point buck 1 like
  -  wild_man_dave @legionpreparedness couldn't agree more. Then what spend thousands at a really good taxidermy to take up space when you could have done something way more useful with the fur/claws/bone etc. we're going to be left with a average species. Check out Pennsylvania.. rarely get a tag to hunt Elk in PA. If you're lucky you get a tag. In the past year or so they just shot the 4th biggest elk in the world in PA if I recall. It's the big reason we don't see HUGE moose anymore (trophy engineering)

bowwow_1369 They are spreading. I'm 350 miles east of Yellowstone where they claim no wolves live. My eyes are not that bad.
  -  laruetactical @bowwow_1369 ... "Over the course of the year, gray wolves move the most," they found, likely because wolves travel with their far-ranging prey. Gray wolves (Canis lupus) in Alaska may roam four times that distance in a year, though. And a wolf in southwest Mongolia held the record. The male wolf was documented traveling 7,247 kilometers in a year."

wenzel747 It's the anti hunting crowd's way of reducing prey numbers so they can say see we shouldn't hunt because there are less animals and the wolves would starve 2 likes
timothyshanerussell Be conservative like we was taught. Thin the herd.
greglikesbikes "Nine Mile Wolves" is also a good book on how the introduction in Montana went; a bit dated, but good backstory. 2 likes

mckeonekert First wolf kill of livestock 70 years just occurred in Colorado near Walden.
rlazybulldogs They claim they only kill the weak, But everything is weaker then a pack of wolves. They kill whatever they want to . Whenever they want to . 1 like

petegray97504 I'm in southern Oregon, 30min from the California border.. I have 2 packs within a 30min drive of my house. 15 years ago I'd have to drive 9 hours to be near wolves... Wolves spread like crotch critters at a Grateful Dead festival..
powellnorm Utah has been having wolf issues since 2002. DRW is still claiming most of the sightings are rare western gray wolves on a natural come back. But a wolf killed around the 2002 era was a collared wolf with a unique limp from the groups released in Yellowstone.

legionpreparedness So once again the wolf, an animal indigenous to the Americas for eons, has run afoul of white men for inconveniencing them....😶 1 like
  -  laruetactical @legionpreparedness ... There you go, lumpin' the wolves all together
  -  lvfreordie @legionpreparedness and so what? Humans
  -  legionpreparedness @laruetactical there have been at least 25 separate wolf species identified in America over the past 400 years. Reintegration programs used a Mexican / gray wolf IIRC. And there are countless wolf / coyote / feral dog hybrids. I would venture to say feral pigs are a much bigger problem than volves ever could be
  -  laruetactical @legionpreparedness ... When the wolves over populate, feral pigs will be their Sunday dinners. Trust the Science 2 likes
