... Public Service Announcement - Pilot friend was in Europe 6 months (or so). Came back to his diesel truck in the garage and it wasn't right. Dropped DEF tank twice to clean it, rinse it out ... still no good. Limped into dealer and old DEF had gummed up the works 😳 ... oh, and there seems to be a DEF shortage showing it's ugly head. "End of Message" 😎 ML

bpw_1345 Heard someone call a popular talk radio show today Nd said that his trucking company was warned there may be a shortage of DEF next year due to the ingredient being imported. #thisweekinconspiracy #podcast 1 like

  -  thecodystone @kylejwhiteofficial it's an issue with warranties. 1 like
  -  browninghigherpower @thecodystone I think he means Diesel engines worked fine for decades before DEF.. remove the DEF and remove the problem 3 likes
  -  _benjamin_thomas @browninghigherpower that will void the warranty if you have one. Luckily those extended car warranty companies are really helping people out calling them 17 times a week 1 like
mr.mercury24 I work at Advance, I'm sitting here looking at 21 jugs right now. I get more every week. I don't see much sign of a shortage.
  -  bigcalamari I saw reports early next year for Europe and Australia...it'll be later for us..if it happens
highbrow_666 Bargain DEF is no bargain. Either delete it or pay the $$ for name brand. Walmart garbage froze in the tank and cracked it. Cheap turned into a $400 fix. 1 like
  -  heff104 @highbrow_666 77,000 miles on Walmart DEF without an issue. 2017 F350 KR.
  -  bwestlake78 @highbrow_666 200k between 2 trucks, never bought the good stuff unless i had no choice. I've replaced 3 def tanks, but never because of the fluid. Gm builds the sensors and elements into the tank. $35 sensor goes bad= $1500 repair because you cant replace just the sensor... And good luck deleting a new Duramax for less than $5k. They've made it damn near impossible.
  -  highbrow_666 @bwestlake78 You are aware that impurities and high water content in the lesser quality DEF products is what causes the sensor failure, right? No. You apparently are not.
  -  bwestlake78 @highbrow_666 it's been the heating element burned out for me every time. I'd love nothing more than to delete it, but I still haven't covered the cost to delete if you add them all up. I've never really looked into impurities, etc because its a necessary evil for me. I don't want to use it in the first place, I'm sure not going to shop around for the most expensive brand. I trade trucks every 2 or 3 years anyway, so I buy the cheap shit and go on with my life. If I actually intend to keep one long term, I may spend the extra, but most likely delete it as soon as the budget allows anyway.
  -  bwestlake78 @highbrow_666 my brother runs nothing but the good stuff, and has had the same issues.
1striker4life That's why I deleted mine 4 likes
mysupercleverusername Lets save the planet by making clean air but produce and bunch of plastic and cardboard to dump in the landfills.
  -  laruetactical @mysupercleverusername ... And make the diesel less efficient, so that you have to burn two (2) gallons to go the same distance.
howzithowzit Prices on that going up along with everything else as well 😖
ethridgemd Just have him delete the Def BS! 2 likes
sloskii If you fallow the money for DEF, you will see who is involved and who pushed it through. You know it's bad when California is trying to ban all of a sudden.
d_t_0924 I got 99 problems but def ain't one 1 like
jrleslie One reason I bought a gasser F250. E85 capable can run on home brew gasohol if it comes down to it. Plus I'd rather my money go to corn farmers in Iowa than OPEC 2 likes
jsmith_409 I get mine at the pump. Also cheaper that way. Trade in every 18-36 so can't delete anything due to warranty.
brendentallguy Good info!
mic.flick Every time I throw a 2.5 DEF away I'm reminded of the irony.
richispapa225 Time to Delete
fordeater *cough def delete cough*
makerinarms Yup. Def crystalizes. Be sure to buy as fresh as you can, or get it from the dealer since they go through it so fast it doesn't sit.
joperino Having a big shortage of 100 below antifreeze which is a must for our pipeline work here in the Midwest. Prices are sky high and availability is horrible. 1 like

  -  jrleslie @foxtrot.tango.whiskey.actual yep I picked up my 6.2 lariat gasser last month. We can replace our whole engine cheaper than the cost of diesel injectors replacement
  -  7.62stu @jrleslie cant store gas
  -  chokenstad6oh @foxtrot.tango.whiskey.actual I also just sold my diesel and have a 7.3 gasser on order!
  -  laruetactical @chokenstad6oh ... This thread has turned me off of DEF Diesels. If they want to slow down a stampede racing towards DC for the annual Jan. 6th Potomac River White Bass run, all they gotta do is dry up the DEF 😳 3 likes
tubefitter61 Worst thing ever foisted on us Cummins owners. Hate that swill. 1 like
johnnyray713 So I work for UPRR and we regularly spot a facility here in Houston that unloads and bottles DEF. We pull and spot tank cars at the faculty twice a week. 1 like

nvrck1 Yeah once DEF is opened it has a shelf life. Crystalizes
mikenotgonnagetit Another reason to delete all that shit and tune it out of the truck if possible. 1 like
  -  olddollarbill @mikenotgonnagetit my diesel mechanic said he would do it to my truck for $1,200. That would cut into my gun money so I told him no 1 like

dtwaxdownzero Yeah, DEF sucks and it's even worse if you allow it to be exposed to sunlight.
nate_cr_survival CUT THE DEF SYSTEM OUT and straight pipe it.
t_m0t This shit is a fucking scam

craftycrazymama Hubby drives; hes been watching this for a few weeks and already having issues with his truck. A chemical they use to make it is made in china which has stopped shipping it to any where.
auav8tor Just piss in it
willkana Delete that crap and never look back
lilredhenshop Another PSA: when your warranty runs out, find a good mechanic and pay him to cut that shit off your truck and re-program it. It will run 10 times better.
  -  laruetactical @lilredhenshop ... ✅💪💯
  -  laruetactical @lilredhenshop ... Will it still pass the state inspection ?
