As usual, the latest LaRue Accuracy Report has a couple of great articles ... this is the last paragraph in Todd Hodnett's shootin'-the-breeze article - ML

j_frank24_ My CP in Alaska gave me the best advice for wind I've ever gotten: "The plane doesn't know it's windy, only the pilot. Go fly." 4 likes
  -  laruetactical @j_frank24_ ... Great way to put that. I like to fly on windy days ... during a precautionary landing, land into the wind, as slow as possible. When the engine stops, I always make a precautionary landing just in case something's up. ML 1 like
  -  j_frank24_ @laruetactical Before Alaska my pain threshold was 25kts. After Alaska anything below 40 doesn't concern me. Folks have to get home.

  -  jeffyoung357 @j_frank24_ For me, it was: "the airplane doesn't know it's over water."
  -  j_frank24_ @jeffyoung357 The tricks your mind plays on you after you hear: "proceed due regard..." are amazing.
  -  laruetactical @jeffyoung357 ... I got 1,500 or so hours, all VFR. My rule is not to fly if I can't see the ground. I don't fly on top, cause I can't see the ground. I don't fly over water as water is not the ground. I don't fly at night, cause ... etc. Tailwinds to us all. ML 1 like
  -  j_frank24_ @laruetactical To be perfectly honest, if I didn't do this for a living those would be my Sunday flying rules. Too many engine failures in my past to mess with that junk. It gives me a healthy appreciation for my TFE731s.
  -  laruetactical @j_frank24_ ... After seeing those 2 seasoned IFR guys (20,000 hrs combined IFR) fly that Lear into a light pole at Hobby, I decided IFR wasn't for me. ML 1 like
