accurate_al TNT trap round maybe?
fireclean Vanderbilt Med Center stepped up hugely. #anchordown
eadie.steve I saw that and it was painful to watch. Thank god for eye pro and luck! Lots of luck!
zinfendal_0 Crazy video I would avoid any screw cap gun and old ammo. Especially ammo that has been traded around. I am sure Scott is 2nd guessing himself. 1 for the round with a huge muzle flash. 2 for the odd inaccuracies issues he had with the prior rounds. Easy to say that now knowing what happened. Love and miss my full auto Friday's and trolling the fools complaining about what shoots up.
antoniolaserant A lol of funny business with those Slap rounds since they sell for 100$ per round a lot of fakes
moa_mike He indicated it was a hot round of old 50 BMG slap that he bought. Freaking scary.
mcdrinkle So I read something from a long time ago (2016) where they were talking about shooting SLAP rounds from a rifle. It mentioned that the muzzle break needed to be removed due to the sabot. I wonder...🤔
mikenotgonnagetit So glad he survived and is doing well. That shit is absolutely friggen nuts!!

jfpvh Wow I checked it out God is good he's very fortunate to be alive.. I have a friend with a Barrett M82A1 and shoots a bunch of military ammo but he unloads all of it and reloads it or he shoots the good stuff ☕☕usus 1 like
goldie_n_az I did some close-up of his showing of the SLAP. It looked like a reload because it had no factory crimp, and the stuff we used during OIF had crimps on it.
camfieldryan That dude has luck on his side for sure!
josh.macintyre Glad he is ok.

auzball That's gonna be one hell of a scar and story to tell, that's for sure.
patrick_simpson1 He's lucky to be alive, good thing he didn't loose his left thumb in the blast

wild_man_dave Lucky to survive.
  -  fishingm90 @laruetactical do you have any theories about what may have caused the overpressure/detonation? I was thinking that someone probably sold him a shitty batch of reloads marketed as factory produced, and loaded with either a half charge or the wrong powder. I figured you'd be more of an expert on the matter. 3 likes
  -  laruetactical @fishingm90 ... I don't have a clue what the cause of Scott's kaboom could be. 5 likes
  -  bradhudson @fishingm90 theory i have seen going around is that certain types of ammo can experience a deterioration of the powder with age which can make them hotter. Dont ask me to explain the science.
  -  fishingm90 @bradhudson i thought that virtually every gun powder used in America since World War 2 was stable indefinitely.
  -  bradhudson @fishingm90 🤷
  -  evergreenrider @fishingm90 Scott said he believes they were counterfeit SLAP rounds
  -  max_w_anderson @fishingm90 I've seen an example at the NRA Whittington Center of a 50 loaded with pistol powder. Some poor guy ran that "factory ammo" through his new m107 and practically welded the case to the bolt. After pulling bullets, they determined the whole box was bad. I'm curious if that could have been the case for Scott...
  -  cotyshores @fishingm90 I saw where someone posted the after story. It was a bad loaded slap round
seanklk He is lucky to be alive!!
seanklk What caused it?? 1 like
  -  joseph5myers @seanklk It would seem to have been US Military Surplus round that was way overpressure for some reason. Mark Serbu who is the guy that manufactured the rifle that he was using said that the round had to been a minimun of 85,000 psi and probably closer to 100,000 psi to do what it did. Maybe it got double charged when manufactered? You should watch the video he does a very good job of showing the sequence of events. I think that round would have destroyed any 50 cal rifles that it would have been shot through. 1 like

slangin_boolits my thought it was either a domestically spiced, exported, then re imported round, or one of bubba's super-pissin-hot gun show specials that he made after finding some slap projos 2 likes

juan.venado1911 That got a little western...
chasin_pedos_to_the_gallows Oh my Lord above; I'm so glad he survived. This just demonstrates firearms are NOT toys. Inspect your firearms. No, maintenance neglect is NOT why this happened to Scott, but I see a lot of people "brag" about not servicing their weapon for thousands of rounds, and that is not responsible firearm ownership unless your in combat and simply can't, which pertains to none of us. At least get a headspace gauge! 8 likes

schudust I watched this last nigh. Pretty unbelievable he's still here.
demetrius0202 People are getting hurt with .50s lately. Not all these accidents are the same of course, WhistlingDiesel caught a ricochet because he was an idiot. And Kentucky Ballistics has either an overcooked cartridge or a barrel obstruction. I still want a .50 like any red blooded American, but a good reminder to wear PPE and pay attention to what you're doing. 8 likes
  -  markythemark @demetrius0202 said it was a wildly overpressure SLAP. Not much you can do for that except weigh your surplus for excess powder I guess 1 like
  -  stevo361hunt @demetrius0202 hot slap round. No barrel obstruction, the last round fired was stuck in the fire hydrant he was using for a target. Goes to show if you are buying surplus exotic rounds find specs on optimum total cartridge weight and inspect/weigh each round accordingly
  -  demetrius0202 @stevo361hunt guys I ain't here to argue about what caused it. I do feel like a barrel obstruction near the lands is still plausible with sketchy SLAP. But hey what do we know unless some experienced forensic team gets ahold of it? 1 like
  -  stevo361hunt @demetrius0202 i wasn't arguing I was just repeated what Scott stated in his video when he did the breakdown😂 calm your sensitive booty down dude lol
  -  demetrius0202 @stevo361hunt keyboard warriors quick to regurgitate the man's theory of why the gun self destructed as if it's law. Even Scott isn't 100% sure. I watched the video too lol.
  -  ninjadanceoff @demetrius0202 bet your loads of fun at parties.
  -  demetrius0202 @ninjadanceoff not too shabby actually. Especially if I get ahold of a .50 one of these days lol.
  -  jackiej.barnhart @stevo361hunt could the sabot be the obstruction?
  -  stevo361hunt Likely not I would say the excess powder from a hot load could have set off the charge in the slap projectile. To get the 85K pressure inside the chamber for a failure according to Mr serbu that would be a likely factor. Lots of G-force in play with too much powder in a 50 BMG cartridge but further investigation will tell. A dead giveaway would be an inspection of the barrel and see if there's a bulge anywhere near where the projectile sits 1 like
  -  bradhudson @stevo361hunt slap rounds dont have a charge
  -  stevo361hunt @bradhudson my mistake, confused with raufuss
  -  zackrows @markythemark over pressure in old surplus is often caused by degedation of powder due to age, not necessarily extra powder. Coatings wear off and powders break into finer pieces causing faster burn rates. Weight is NOT a reliable indicator, unfortunately.
  -  markythemark @zackrows really? Didn't know that. I'm curious if the chemistry of that works out to being enough to blow the gun to pieces. I know SLAP is hot as hell at the best of times 1 like
  -  zackrows @markythemark I'm speaking pretty generally here, don't know much specifically about SLAP. But if we're to believe SERBU that this was caused by a ~65% over pressure, I don't think it's unrealistic to rule out the pressure curve being made narrower by faster reaction rate. Curious that'd degedation would only affect that one round if all his ammo came from the same lot. So I'm really not proposing that degedation was the issue, just trying to let people know not to rely on cartridge weight as an indication of how pissin hot the load is :) 2 likes
  -  demetrius0202 @zackrows I'd like someone who knows more than me to go over the gun with a fine tooth comb. I'd like to know if shoddy unreliable SLAP rounds came apart in the barrel and left a partial obstruction. 1 like
fdmarshal He's one lucky sob. Damn lucky he didn't have a stroke like he said.
